Have you noticed that your organization is losing teachers of color at an alarming rate?

Do you understand WHY?

Let's talk about it...

We are on a mission to disrupting the teacher retention status quo by financially empowering teachers of color

Teachers of color are being pushed out of the teaching profession at alarmingly high rates

🚨 50% of Black educators reported in the winter of 2021 that they were likely to leave their jobs at the end of the school year, compared with only 23% of teachers overall (RAND Corporation)

🚨In February 2022, 55% of teachers planned to exit earlier than anticipated, up from 37% in August 2021. The numbers were highest among Black (62%) and Latino (59%) educators (NEA)

Racial Breakdown of Teacher Workforce

The number of teachers of color has decreased since the report was released in December 2021 (Pew Research)

Why is this happening?

Here are a few of the MANY reasons that explain this pattern (Center for American Progress). Many teachers of color…
👉🏽Feel isolated for being the only or one of the few teachers of color in the building

👉🏽Experience microaggressions at the workplace

👉🏽Lack supportive school leadership that is racially diverse

👉🏽Are expected to be more disciplinarians than teachers

👉🏽Lack effective and consistent mentorship

Research also indicates that a lack of financial support and financial frustration are major factors that are pushing teachers of color out of the profession. (PDK Poll)

First off, I wish so badly I wasn’t 48 years old and learning about all of this. I wish I had learned about this when I started teaching 20 years ago. It’s all such valuable information. As someone who wasn’t financially savvy for MANY years, I know what it is like to have extreme financial stress.”

Your organization doesn’t have to be this data

As an organization, you can make positive changes to retain your teachers of color.

Imagine if your teachers of color…

✨Gained the financial literacy to create wealth with their salary

✨Had the tools, resources, and knowledge to reach financial peace thanks to you

✨Were less stressed about their finances and more excited about becoming better teachers

✨Felt fully supported by your organization that they’d radiate strong pride and deep appreciation to be part of it

✨Need new teachers in your organization? Because your own teachers of color feel so supported by you, they’d be happy to refer colleagues your way!

The Dream Teacher Project is a trailblazer in the field by being the only organization that prioritizes the financial wellness of teachers.

Don’t take it from us…

I, Israel, was just like the teachers of color you serve.

I was a high performing Yale and Stanford Graduate. An openly queer, first-gen Latine teacher who became debt free and built a Six Figure Net Worth with a teacher’s salary.
Throughout my teaching career, I taught in San José (CA), Nashville (TN), New Haven (CT), and Washington, D.C. Every year, students would write me notes about how powerful it was to have a teacher who looked like them, talked like them, and how I inspired some of them to come out one day. Partly due to feeling represented and loved, my students would perform at high levels academically–in 2021, my students scored the second highest on the AP World History exam from all public and charter schools in DC.

Eventually, all of the unspoken expectations and hard work that comes with being a highly effective teacher of color drove me to exhaustion, stress, and burnout. Organizing my finances and learning to build wealth on a teacher's salary, however, changed my life. I know it will do the same for your teachers of color.

This is how we will transform the lives of your teachers of color:

We educate and empower participants to…

💪🏽Improve their relationships with money

💪🏽Leverage a budget as a tool to achieve their financial goals

💪🏽Implement simple strategies to eliminate their debt

💪🏽Design money systems that will give them peace of mind

💪🏽Build wealth on a teacher salary

💪🏽Increase their incomes to more quickly achieve their financial goals

In an hour, I learned more about financial planning and independence than I have in my entire life.
— Learesi J Montes, High School English Teacher in Chicago, IL
Sunem and Israel broke down complicated financial topics relevant to educators in a way that was easy to understand. Their background as a teacher and in HR/finance made them wonderful experts to share this information. I wish I had learned a lot of this when I started teaching!

Meet Your Financial Educators

Being the only Latina in her Master in Finance program led Sunem to become increasingly frustrated with how inaccessible wealth building is for communities of color. Sunem channeled this frustration by building wealth herself as a woman of color and by also helping Israel build wealth as a teacher.

After teaching in San José, Nashville, New Haven, and DC, Israel was able to become debt-free and reach a 6-figure net worth on a teacher salary.

As first-gen Latine siblings, we have collectively amassed over $350,000 in wealth, and are now determined to help others like us build strong financial foundations, build wealth, and reach financial peace.

Are you ready to partner with us?

I loved how it was structured like a lesson for K-12 students (visual explainers, CFUs, etc.) and how it shared information in a “most-essential” way that was easy to understand. I’ve been waiting for this straight-to-the-point delivery
